Erik Kollin

Egg pendant in gold and enamel

Pendants

Description

A rare Russian enameled pendant by Fabergé workmaster Erik August Kollin,St Petersburg. Hallmarked 56 = 14 kt, maker's mark EK.
Russia, circa 1885

Erik August Kollin (1836-1901) was born in Finland, where he completed his apprenticeship before traveling to St. Petersburg. Qualified as a workmaster in 1868, opened his own workshop in St. Petersburg in 1870. Kollin worked for August Holmström and for Carl Fabergé and was soon put in charge of all Fabergé workshops, a position he held until 1886 when he was replaced by Michael Perkhin. He was Fabergé's first most important jeweler. Specializing in gold and silver items, most in an archaic style of the period. The artefacts Kollin produced for Fabergé before his departure in 1886 usually bear his initials EK, along with Fabergé's hallmark and can often be found in a Fabergé box. It is clear that these predate the change of hallmarks in 1899. Items bearing only the EK mark and produced between 1885 and 1899 should be considered the work of an independent operator unless covered by Fabergé.

Love the owner. Very strong and wise lady. Family owned shop, and she has been working there 55 years. She seems cold at the beginning but she’s really patient and friendly, allow you to try everything but never push you to make a decision. We discussed how to change the size of my ring, she had really strong and professional opinion, just listen to her , you are in good hand. Very very nice collections and you can trust their experiences.

I visited the shop June 2022. I ended up buying a lovely 1970s emerald ring. She was able to resize it that day! If I visit Amsterdam again, I will definitely stop by this store.

We love this shop. The owner couples are very charming, we bought a few things and I can tell you the prices are very good. They have many beautiful and unique jewellery and watches. We had a very pleasant experience for shopping here. I recommend you must browse the shop when you visit Amsterdam.

Perfect view of a beautiful piece of antique and always willing to provide an explanation. Never the compulsion to buy, customer friendliness and knowledge at its best! By the way, I'm not related.
